Fingers crossed anyway.
Garbo has been intermittantly lame most of this year. I had a vet out in December last year to show him the 'hopping' lameness and he proceeded to tell me to canter him round and round the arena for 15 minutes. Then told me to work him more often and harder! Well - that plan didn't work - and here I was 5 months later with the same hoppiness.
Another person told me he was 'having me on'. Well I don't really think Garbo would be standing in his paddock thinking "today I am going to hop only on the right rein when we turn". !!
I went through Garbo's daily diary and noted down when he was good and when he was lame, and called a different vet! I had had enough! I needed answers - or at least someone that would listen.
John Ewen came and listed to my diary entries (yay) and then looked at Garbo taking a few steps in trot and confirmed he was lame. On the right front leg - just like I thought.
He examined his hooves and tested them for heat and soreness and then told me the hoof was medially-laterally unbalanced. He said he didn't want to do anything else veterinarian wise until this was fixed. He said it would be causing him to have sore pectoral muscles on that side which confirmed to me that he may be right. Rachel had definitely noticed that the last two treatments.
So - got Jools out today to trim his hooves again - we think we will have to trim his feet more regularly now - say every three weeks.
So - tomorrow - the test - the ride to see how he is...
Just counted - I have had 40 good rides on Garbo this year and 30 when he has been lame or hoppy! Lets hope we have got to the bottom of it. That's not counting the days I lunged him to see if he was lame - and he was...
