Blue was chased through a barbed wire fence last night by a much bigger, much stronger horse. He was obviously bitten and chased before shear desperation drove him to going through the fence. Luckily it kind of tipped over and none of his injuries were bad enough to break anything or damage any tendons.
He was found a long way away in the neighbours paddock which is next to the main highway - sweating and in shock, shaking and having lost about 20 kilos.
I cleaned the wounds and put emu oil cream on the gashes, cuts and bites. Gave him lots of hay, some water, some carrots and bananas and left him in peace for a bit in a paddock on his own. By the afternoon he was a lot chirpier. He's one tough pony!
It's so horrible to think what he must have gone through... but I am so thankful his injuries were not as bad as they could have been. So many horses do terrible damage in fences.
Here's some of the worst wounds.
